CJ 4020 - Crime Justice and Social Diversity (3)The course examines how issues of crime and justice are played out in the context of a diverse society. Diverse populations include those of income, race, ethnicity, gender, sexual identity and preference, age, immigration, and other disenfranchised elements of society. The course will focus on four major issues: 1) how diverse populations are socially constructed in American society; 2) how the law affects and has affected diverse populations in American society; 3) the differential response of the criminal justice system to various populations; and 4) how victimization impacts diverse groups. The course will emphasize historical patterns in conjunction with current critical issues regarding diversity and the criminal justice system. Prerequisite(s): CJ 1000.
