Major, Bachelor of Science Degree
Students will be:
- Able to think critically about problems and issues facing children and families.
- Prepared to use developmentally appropriate practices to promote the optimal development of diverse children and families.
- Competent to assume leadership roles in programs providing direct and support services to children and families.
- Articulate advocates for justice for families and children in both public and private arenas.
- Aware of and sensitive to ethical implications in their professional relationships with diverse families and children.
Students must earn a grade of C or better in all courses with a CFD prefix.
The Child and Family Development undergraduate program is a Certified Family Life Educator (CFLE) Program through the National Council on Family Relations (NCFR). The required courses listed below meet the criteria for approval as a provisional Certified Family Life Education (CFLE). Students wishing to obtain provisional CFLE certification must apply to NCFR upon the completion of an undergraduate degree in CFD.
Course required: CFD 1010 , CFD 1220 , CFD 3230 , CFD 3240 , CFD 3710 , CFD 4220 , CFD 4260 , CFD 4520 , CFD 4550 , CFD 4710 , CFD 4745 , CFD 4850 , FCSE 3120 , and pick one of the following - CFD 4530 , CFD 4560 , CFD 4570 , or CFD 4540 .
