Precision Agriculture Certificate (10-8904) (15 hours)

The Precision Agriculture undergraduate certificate program is designed for students who have an interest in agriculture technology and want to affect agriculture management practices through data driven decisions.  Students will gain knowledge and skills to apply precision technology to the agriculture industry.  This includes using technology such as Global Positioning Systems (GPS), Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and equipment small Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS). Students will collect information, analyze data and implement best management practices into production agriculture practices.

Upon successful completion of this certificate, students will be able to:

  • Identify soil, crop, and/or pest related problems and how to manage them using currently available and emerging technologies.  
  • Pass the Federal Aviation Administration’s small UAG, Part 107 exam to operate unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in an agribusiness environment. 
  • Collect precision agriculture data using traditional methods as well as high throughput field phenotyping and interpret them to make more precise and accurate management decisions.

To apply for admission for the certificate in Precision Agriculture, the following items must be submitted:

  1. Admitted to the university as a degree-seeking or certificate-seeking student. 
  2. Application for the certificate in Precision Agriculture.

A maximum of six hours of transfer credit may be applied toward requirements in the certificate in Precision Agriculture.  Courses taken toward the undergraduate certificate program may be applied to a UCM Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Science.

*This certificate may have courses in common with other UCM agriculture undergraduate certificates. A student may earn more than one UCM agriculture undergraduate certificate, but a student may duplicate no more than three credit hours between any two undergraduate agriculture certificates.
