Major, Bachelor of Science in Education Degree

Certification to teach grades 5-9, in a subject area.

The graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Education degree with a major in Middle School will use the knowledge and skills obtained in the program to:

  • Integrate the middle school philosophy and the principles of adolescent brain development into their teaching practices.
  • Create inclusive, supportive, and engaging learning environments that foster social-emotional growth and academic success.
  • Deliver age-appropriate curriculum aligned with educational content standards.
  • Implement differentiated instructional strategies that address diverse learner needs.
  • Demonstrate professional dispositions characterized by consistently upholding high standards of integrity and professionalism in their interactions with students, colleagues, and the broader educational community.

Note:


All Middle School majors are encouraged to choose an additional content area by taking additional hours or with a minor. However, in order to be certified in an additional content area, a Missouri Content Assessment must be passed after initial Middle School Certification.

General Education Requirements: 27-36 Semester Hours


All students must complete a minimum of 42 credit hours in general education. See The General Education Program Requirements  for the full listing of requirements. The following general education courses are required by this major:
