Major, Bachelor of Music Education Degree
The graduate with a Bachelor of Music Education degree will use the knowledge and skills obtained in the program to:
- Interpret and analyze music through historical, cultural, and theoretical study.
- Perform, improvise, and create in individual and collaborative settings with technique, musicality, and artistry.
- Apply current pedagogical and administrative techniques of music at elementary and secondary school levels.
- Demonstrate functional piano performance skills.

Major Requirements: 63.5 Semester Hours
Core Requirements: 49.5 Semester Hours
Ensembles: 7 Semester Hours
BME majors are expected to be in an instrumental or vocal ensemble during every semester up to their student teaching semester, with a minimum of seven (7) separate semesters. Students taking lessons in instrumental areas not listed below are required to complete 6 hours of large ensemble, plus 1 additional hour of small or large ensemble chosen in consulation with area coordinator or applied instructor. Woodwind, Brass & Percussion Students:

Professional Education Requirements: 36 Semester Hours
Professional Education requires an overall 3.0 GPA and a grade of C or better for each course. Music Professional Education Course: 3 Semester Hours
Student Teaching Semester: 12 Semester Hours
General Education Requirements: 33 Semester Hours
All students must complete a minimum of 42 credit hours in general education. See The General Education Program Requirements for the full listing of requirements. The following general education courses are required by this major: Minimum Total: 132.5 Semester Hours
