Aviation Technology & Operations Management, MBS (56-896)

Students in the MBS Aviation Technology & Operations Management (MBS ATOM) program will:

  • Increase awareness of value systems (of oneself and others) and their influence on decision making
  • Utilize analytical and critical thinking to develop creative business solutions
  • Integrate aviation and business knowledge and to accomplish executive managerial goals
  • Participate in experiences to apply learning and demonstrate mastery

The MBS ATOM is a professional degree program for working adults and outstanding graduates. The admission requirements are as follows:

  • Resume which documents at least three years of professional aviation work experience, or be currently employed by the UCM Aviation Department as a Certified Flight Instructor or Research Assistant. Recent Aviation major graduates with less than 3 years’ work experience but have good academic standing may be considered on a case by case basis.
  • Undergraduate Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 2.50/4.00 overall, or 2.75 in last 60 credit hours obtained, or 3.00/4.00 overall if work experience is less than 3 years.
  • Demonstration of proficiency in basic quantitative areas necessary to be successful in the program (basic statistics, accounting, and finance). All applicants, regardless of undergraduate major, must pass an exam to exhibit proficiency before the end of the first semester in the program or sooner.

The MBS ATOM program will have courses offered at the University of Central Missouri’s Summit Center Campus in Lee’s Summit, Missouri as well as on campus and field locations in Warrensburg. Students may not cross register in MBA classes on campus nor may campus MBA students cross register for classes in the MBS ATOM. The 33 credit hour program includes nine courses and one 3-credit hour applied learning experience (ALE).  The ALE is a faculty - mentored, student-driven project which utilizes the course work to address a real challenge or project within the student’s workplace and exhibits the student’s mastery of the four MBS ATOM program objectives.
