Athletic Training Program (ATP) Status

  • The University of Central Missouri Athletic Training Program is currently accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE), 6850 Austin Center Blvd., Suite 100, Austin, TX 78731-3101. The program is currently applying to the CAATE for a change in level of degree and is pending approval.
  • The UCM ATP is nationally accredited by the Commission on the Accreditation of Athletic Training (CAATE).
  • Upon completion of the degree program, the student will be eligible to be endorsed as a candidate for the Board of Certification , Inc. (BOC, Inc.) examination for athletic training certification.

Athletic Training Program Student Learning Outcomes
The graduate with a Master of Science degree in Athletic Training will use the knowledge and skills obtained in the program to:

  • Demonstrate delivery of comprehensive health care to designated populations, consistent with best practices in the profession.
  • Demonstrate the capacity to effectively engage in and make contributions to interdisciplinary health care in a diverse number of settings.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in assessment of pathologies, both illness and injury, including development of differential diagnoses.
  • Demonstrate development of effective plans of care for patient populations, including the realm of emergency care response.
  • Demonstrate clinical proficiency in risk management including the prevention of injury and spread of infectious disease.  
  • Demonstrate an ongoing awareness of the dynamics related to modern health care administration and delivery.

Admissions Criteria

The mission of the UCM Athletic Training Program is to provide the highest quality of professional preparation that promotes the development of future athletic trainers.  In so doing, the Athletic Training Program will provide an environment conducive to learning, instill the desire for academic excellence, and foster a spirit of professionalism.

The admission criteria for the Athletic Training Program include:

  • Bachelor degree from an accredited institution
  • Minimum 3.00 GPA (based on a 4.00 scale)
  • Minimum 3.00 GPA (based on a 4.00 scale) on the following prerequisite courses with a minimum grade of “C” or higher:
    • General Biology and lab - 3-4 credit hours
    • Human Anatomy, Physiology and Lab - 4-8 credit hours
    • Chemistry and Lab - 3-4 credit hours
    • Nutrition - 3 credit hours
    • Statistics - 3 credit hours
    • Lifespan and Development - 3 credit hours
    • Kinesiology or Biomechanics - 3 credit hours
    • Exercise Physiology - 3 credit hours
  • Articulation of courses determined by the review of the ATP Admissions Committee.
  • Submit the following directly to the Athletic Training Program by the end of the first working day of March at 5:00.
    • Five reference forms (two must be from a faculty member)
    • A curriculum vitae or resume
    • A personal statement of professional and educational goals, 3-5 pages.
    • Official transcript where bachelor’s degree was earned.
  • For International students seeking admission into the program, additional requirements apply:

    • For full admission to the Athletic Training Master’s Program, international students must submit English proficiency scores with a minimum of 6.0 IELTS-Academic or 79 iBT TOEFL. The Revised TOEFL Paper-delivered Test (RTPDT) scores of Reading: 20, Writing: 20, and Listening: 20 are also accepted by UCM for full admission.

    • Applicants who do not meet the minimum required English proficiency scores may apply for conditional admission to the program. All conditionally-admitted students must successfully complete the Intensive English Program prior to enrolling in courses for the MS in Athletic Training program.  Students who are accepted conditionally do not need to reapply to the Athletic Training program.

  • A student must first be admitted to the University Graduate School. All application materials for the graduate school can be found at www.ucmo.edu/apply.  Information regarding the MSAT can be found at www.ucmo.edu/msat. Questions regarding the Masters of Science Degree in Athletic Training should be directed to atprogram@ucmo.edu.
  • Upon acceptance into the University Graduate School, the following information must be provided within the Slate Application system.

  1. Proof of current personal medical/health insurance

  2. Proof of current immunization records for the following:

    • Hepatitis B series

    • Meningitis

    • Tuberculosis (completed within 6-months prior to start of clinical rotation)

    • Tdap (Tetanus, Diptheria, Pertussis)

    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella)

    • Varicella (Chickenpox) or verification of prior Varicella infection

  3. Completed Criminal Background Check

  4. Completed Drug Test

Upon submission of your application, a link will be provided to Validity Screening where you will schedule your drug test and criminal background check. (There will be an attached fee for this)

After all information is received you may be contacted for an interview. The interview may be conducted on campus if the applicant is within reasonable driving distance or via remote teleconference.

April 1 is the last day to apply to the program and all information must be received by April 15. Failure to comply with these dates may delay your acceptance to the next academic year.
