Languages Statement of Policy

A placement examination determines the level of a student’s initial enrollment in elementary and intermediate language courses.

If a student enrolls in FREN 1202 or GER 1302 or SPAN 1602 and completes the class with a grade of C or better, the student may be eligible for validated credit for FREN 1201 or GER 1301 or SPAN 1601. If a student enrolls in FREN 2201 or GER 2301 or SPAN 2601 or a higher level class and completes the class with a grade of C or better, the student may be eligible for validated credit for FREN 1201 and FREN 1202 or GER 1301 and GER 1302 or SPAN 1601 and SPAN 1602. Other restrictions may apply. For further information contact the Chair of the Department of Modern Languages and Interdisciplinary Studies.

Completion of FREN 2201 , GER 2301 , SPAN 2601 : Student receives 9 credits in total. (3 credits for the successful completion of the course and 6 validated credits for previous knowledge).

Completion of FREN 2202 , GER 2302 , SPAN 2602 : Student receives 12 credits in total. (3 credits for the successful completion of the course and 9 validated credits for previous knowledge).
