Transfer Guide SCC AA to UCM BME Music Education: Instrumental Option

The below courses are required for Music Education majors and can be fulfilled at SCC as part of the AA Music requirements. If these courses are not taken at SCC, they must be completed at UCM. The full list of SCC AA requirements can be found in the SCC catalog.
Students who transfer to UCM with a completed Associate of Arts degree will be considered to have met all general education requirements except for those specificaly required by the major (see UCM General Education Requirements section below, if applicable).
AA General Education Requirements: 42 Semester Hours
AA Elective Options: 22 Semester Hours
Choose from the following elective courses.

UCM BME Music Education: Instrumental Option
The below list of courses represents the requirements a student will have left to complete after transferring to UCM with an Associate of Arts degree. Any courses listed above not taken at SCC must be completed as part of the BME requirements.
Major Requirements: 54 Semester Hours
BME Instrumental Students
Are expected to be in a major large instrumental ensemble during every semester up to their student teaching semester, with a minimum of seven (7) separate semesters to include:
Woodwind, Brass & Percussion Students:
3 Combined Semester Hours in
1 out of 4 required hours can be fulfilled at SCC with completion of MUS 1081. Choose 3 addtional hours.
(up to 2 total semester hours of MUS 1081 , MUS 4081 & MUS MUS 4025 may be applied toward degree)
Note:
Keyboard & Guitar majors must choose band or orchestra as their major large ensemble, Guitar majors may apply up to two (2) s.h. in MUS 4088 toward their major large ensemble requirements.
Professional Education Requirements: 35 Semester Hours
Must earn a 3.00 GPA or higher with no grade lower than a C in Professional Education courses.
Student Teaching Semester: 12 Semester Hours
General Education Requirements: 9 Semester Hours
The following courses are required for Music Education majors and should be taken at UCM.
Minimum Total Hours Required for BME: 120 Semester Hours
