Transfer Guide STLCC AA to UCM BME Music Education: Instrumental Option

The below courses are required for Music Education majors and can be fulfilled at STLCC as part of the AA requirements. If the below courses are not taken at STLCC they must be completed at UCM. The full list of STLCC AA requirements can be found in the STLCC Catalog.
Students who transfer to UCM with a completed Associate of Arts degree will be considered to have met all general education requirements except for those specificaly required by the major (see UCM General Education Requirements section below, if applicable).
AA General Education Requirements: 42 Hours
AA Elective Options: 18 Semester Hours
Minimum Total Hours Required for STLCC AA: 60 Semester Hours
*Must earn a 3.00 GPA or higher with no grade lower than a C in Professional Education courses.
UCM BME Music Education: Instrumental Option
The below list of courses represents the requirements a student will have left to complete after transferring to UCM with an Associate of Arts degree. Any courses listed above not taken at STLCC must be completed as part of BME requirements.
Major Requirements: 38.5-39.5 Semester Hours
BME Instrumental Students
Are expected to be in a major large instrumental ensemble during every semester up to their student teaching semester, with a minimum of seven (7) separate semesters to include:
Woodwind, Brass & Percussion Students:
3 Combined Semester Hours in
1 out of 4 required hours can be fulfilled at STLCC with completion of MUS 1010. Choose 3 additional hours.
(up to 2 total semester hours of MUS 1081 , MUS 4081 & MUS 4025 , may be applied toward degree)
Note:
Keyboard & Guitar majors must choose band or orchestra as their major large ensemble, Guitar majors may apply up to two (2) s.h. in MUS 4088 toward their major large ensemble requirements.
Professional Education Requirements: 25 Semester Hours
Must earn a 3.00 GPA or higher with no grade lower than a C in Professional Education courses.
Student Teaching Semester: 12 Semester Hours
General Education Requirements: 6 Semester Hours
The following general education courses are required for this major and should be taken at UCM.
Note:
MUS 1210 - Experiencing Music GE (3) cannot be counted in the Music Degree Major courses or General Education courses.
Major large ensembles cannot count toward General Education for the Music Major.
Minimum Total Hours Required for BME: 120 Semester Hours
