Transfer Guide MCC AA to UCM BS Communication Studies

The below courses are required for Communication Studies majors and can be fulfilled at MCC as part of the AA requirements. If the below courses are not taken at MCC they must be completed at UCM. The full list of MCC AA requirements can be found in the MCC Catalog.

Students who transfer to UCM with a completed Associate in Arts degree will be considered to have met all general education requirements except for those specificaly required by the major (see UCM General Education Requirements section below, if applicable).

AA General Education Requirements: 42 Semester Hours

COMM 100 Fundamentals of Speech (3) OR COMM 102 Fundamentals of Human Communication (3) transfers as COMM 1000 - Public Speaking GE (3) *

AA Elective Options: 18 Semester Hours

COMM 204 Small Group Communication (3) transfers as COMM 2330 - Communication in Small Groups/Teams (3)
COMM 110 Argumentation and Debate (3) transfers as COMM 2340 - Argumentation and Debate (3) (fulfills 3 hours in Area 2)
COMM 128 Introduction to Film (3) transfers as COMM 3000 - Film Appreciation GE (3)
COMM 223 Interpersonal Communication (3) transfers as COMM 3010 - Interpersonal Communication (3)

Minimum Total Hours Required for MCC AA: 60 Hours

*Course must be completed with a grade of C or higher.

UCM BS Communication Studies

The below list of courses represents the requirements a student will have left to complete after transferring to UCM with an Associate in Arts degree. Any courses listed above not taken at MCC must be completed as part of BS requirements.

Choose One of the Following Areas: 12-15 Semester Hours

Area 1 - Communication Consultancy: 15 Semester Hours

Area 2 - Social Influence and Media: Select 12 Semester Hours

Choose 6 hours

3 hours can be fulfilled at MCC using COMM 2340 (see above). Choose 6 additional hours.

Area 3 - Relational: Select 15 Semester Hours

COMM 2700 - Dale Carnegie: Effective Communication and Human Relations (3)

Select 12 Semester Hours

Note:

+Student must take SOC 1800 (3) as prerequisite in order to enroll in this course. This course is part of the General Education competency #8.

General Education Requirements: 3 Semester Hours

The following course is required for this major and should be taken at UCM.

COMM 2000 - Media Literacy GE (3)

Free Choice Electives: 22-25 Semester Hours

Elective hours may vary depending on transfer coursework and course selection at UCM.

Students must take at least 30 upper-level (3000/4000) hours to graduate. Courses taken at MCC that articulate to upper-level UCM courses do not count towards upper-level hours.

Minimum Total Hours Required for BS: 120 Semester Hours

*Course must be completed with a grade of C or higher.
