Transfer Guide SFCC AFA Music to UCM BM Music: Vocal Option

The below courses are required for Music majors and can be fulfilled at SFCC as part of the AFA requirements. If these courses are not taken at SFCC, they must be completed at UCM. The full list of AFA requirements can be found in the SFCC catalog.
Students who transfer to UCM with an Associate of Fine Arts degree will need to complete the general education requirements at UCM. Some courses are outlined below. See UCM General Education Requirements at the bottom of this guide.
AFA General Education Requirements: 42 Semester Hours
The below courses are recommended to be taken at SFCC as part of the AFA degree and fulfill UCM general education/major requirements (listed in parentheses).
Written/Oral Communication - 9
Social and Behavioral Sciences - 9
Mathematical Sciences - 3
Choose one course from the following:
Science With Lab
Choose one course from the following:
Science Without Lab
Choose one course from the following:
- BIO 103 Human Biology (3) transfers as BIOL 2010 - Human Biology GE (3) (Knowledge Area II)
- BIO 105 Wildlife Conservation (3) transfers as GNED 1915 Transferred BIOL w/no Lab (Knowledge Area II)
Humanities and Fine Arts - 9
MUS 103 and 104 are required. Choose 3 more hours from below.
General Education Elective - 5
One Literature course is recommended.
AFA Music Core: 20 Semester Hours
AFA Music Electives: 5 Semester Hours
AFA Concert and Recital Attendance: 4 Semesters
Minimum Total Hours Required for SFCC AFA: 67 Semester Hours
UCM BM Music: Vocal Option
The below list of courses represents the requirements a student will have left to complete after transferring to UCM with an Associate of Fine Arts degree. Any courses listed above not taken at SFCC must be completed as part of the BM requirements.
Major Requirements: 61 Semester Hours
Major Core Requirements: 4 Semester Hours
Vocal Option: 57 Semester Hours
Note:
Keyboard Competency is demonstrated by passing MUS 2502 - Piano Class IV (1) with a grade of B or better, or passing the piano proficiency examination.
General Education Requirements: 8-12 Semester Hours
The following General Education requirements will need to be completed at UCM.
Free Choice Electives
Additional hours may be required depending on transfer coursework and course selection at UCM. Hours must reach at least 120 overall with at least 30 at upper-level.
Upper-level courses have course numbers in the 3000’s or 4000’s. Courses taken at SFCC that transfer to UCM as upper-level courses do NOT count towards upper-level hours.
Minimum Total Hours Required for BM: 120 Semester Hours
