SOC 4055 - Social Policy & Justice (3)Explores the major debates in contemporary sociology on issues of social policy analysis. A critical analysis of assumptions and belief system behind policy initiatives, the functions of power in policy development and the consequences and implications of policy practices. The course will examine the diverse controversies as it relates to issues such as social security, welfare, education, health care, women’s reproductive health. The course will explore the policy process from emergence to institutionalization and the passage across space and time. The importance of cross-national, comparative and institutional analysis will be emphasized.
