Transfer Guide JCCC AA to UCM BA English

Johnson County Community College
The below courses are required for BA English majors and can be fulfilled at JCCC as part of the AA requirements. If these courses are not taken at JCCC, they must be completed at UCM. The full list of JCCC AA requirements can be found in the JCCC Catalog.
Students who transfer to UCM with an Associate of Arts degree will be considered to have met all general education requirements, except those specifically required by the major (see UCM General Education Requirements below, if applicable).
AA General Education Requirements: 30 Semester Hours
AA Elective Options: 30 Semester Hours
Minimum Total Hours Required for JCCC AA: 60 Semester Hours
UCM BA English
The below list of courses represents the requirements a student will have left to complete after transferring to UCM with an Associate of Arts degree. Any courses listed above not taken at JCCC must be completed as part of BA requirements.
Major Requirements: 30-33 Semester Hours
Select Literature Track or Creative Writing Track: 27-30 Semester Hours
Literature Track: 27 Semester Hours
Select One Course from Each of the Five Following Areas: 15 Semester Hours
Creative Writing Track: 30 Semester Hours
Select one group of Creative Writing Introductory Courses: 9 Semester Hours
Introductory Courses Option 1
Introductory Courses Option 2
Select either Poetry or Fiction Emphasis Area: 6 Semester Hours
From this area, students must choose to take the required courses associated with Emphasis A or Emphasis B.
Select One Course from Each of the Five Following Areas: 15 Semester Hours
Modern Language Requirement
Modern language requirement can be fulfilled at JCCC with completion of 10 hours of Spanish, French, German, or Chinese (see AA requirements above).

Free Choice Electives: 0-15 Semester Hours
Free choice electives may vary depending on transfer coursework and course selection at UCM.
