Transfer Guide GCCC AS Criminal Justice to UCM BS Criminal Justice and Criminology

The below courses are required for Criminal Justice and Criminology majors and can be fulfilled at GCCC as part of the AS Criminal Justice requirements. If any of the below courses are not taken at GCCC, they must be completed at UCM. The full list of AS requirements can be found in the GCCC Catalog.
Students who transfer to UCM with an Associate in Science degree will need to complete the general education requirements at UCM. See the UCM General Education Requirements section at the bottom of this guide.
Only courses with a grade of C or better (including transfer courses) may be used to fulfill a core requirement in any major or minor offered exclusively by the Department of Criminal Justice.
AS General Education Requirements: 34 Semester Hours
The below courses are recommended to be taken at GCCC as part of the AS degree and fulfill UCM general education requirements (listed in parentheses).
Mathematics and Natural Sciences: 10 Hours
Social Science: 6 Hours
Choose two courses from the following (must include PSYC 101 and/or SOCI 102 with two different subject areas).
Humanities and Fine Arts: 6 Hours
Choose two courses from the following (must be two different subject areas).
Personal Wellness: 2 Hours

AS Recommended Program Courses: 26 Semester Hours
The following courses may be taken as part of the AS Criminal Justice degree and fulfill UCM major requirements.
Minimum Total Hours Required for GCCC AS: 60 Semester Hours
UCM BS Criminal Justice and Criminology
The below list of courses represents the requirements a student will have left to complete after transferring to UCM with an Associate of Science degree. Any courses listed above not taken at GCCC must be completed as part of BS requirements.
Major Requirements: 24 Semester Hours
Courses must be completed with a C or higher.
General Education Requirements: 16 Semester Hours
The following General Education requirements will need to be completed at UCM. Hours may vary depending on the general education courses chosen at GCCC.
- Knowledge Area I (3-6 Hours)
- Knowledge Area II (7 Hours)
- Knowledge Area III (0-3 Hours)
- Elective (3 hours)
Free Choice Electives: 23 Semester Hours
Free choice elective hours may vary depending on transfer coursework and course selection at UCM. Hours must reach at least 120 overall with at least 30 at upper-level.
Upper-level courses have course numbers in the 3000’s or 4000’s. Courses taken at GCCC that transfer to UCM as upper-level courses do NOT count towards upper-level hours.
Minimum Total Hours Required for BS: 120 Semester Hours
