Transfer Guide JCCC AAS Fire Science to UCM BS Crisis and Disaster Management


Johnson County Community College


The below courses are required for BS Crisis and Disaster Management majors and can be fulfilled at JCCC as part of the AAS Fire Science requirements. If these courses are not taken at JCCC, they must be completed at UCM. The full list of JCCC AA requirements can be found in the JCCC Catalog.

Students who transfer to UCM with an AAS degree will need to complete the general education requirements at UCM. See The General Education Program Requirements  for complete list of requirements.

AAS General Education Requirements: 30 Semester Hours


The below courses required by the AAS Fire Science degree at JCCC fulfill general education requirements at UCM. See the JCCC General Education Equivalency Page  for full list of general education courses that transfer to UCM.

  • ENGL 121 Composition I (3) transfers as   (Foundational Skills)
  • Humanities Elective - choose 3 hours from JCCC General Education Equivalency page (above)
  • Social Science Elective - choose 3 hours from JCCC General Education Equivalency page (above)
  • Mathematics - choose 3 hours from JCCC General Education Equivalency page (above)
  • Science and/or Math Elective - choose CHEM 122:

  • CHEM 122 Principles of Chemistry (5) transfers as CHEM 1104 - Introduction to the Sciences: Chemistry GE (4: 4 lecture, 0 lab) (Knowledge Area II, required for major

UCM BS Crisis and Disaster Management


The below list of courses represents the requirements a student will have left to complete after transferring to UCM with an Associate of Applied Science degree. Any courses listed above not taken at JCCC must be completed as part of BS requirements.

General Education Requirements: 26-27 Semester Hours


The following General Education  requirements will need to be completed at UCM. Hours may vary depending on transfer coursework and course selection.

  • Foundational Skills: Writing II (3 hours)
  • Foundational Skills: Communication (3 hours)
  • Foundational Skills: Managing Information (2-3 hours)
  • Knowledge Area I (6 hours)
  • Knowledge Area II (3 hours)

Minimum Total Hours Required for BS: 120 Semester Hours
