EDSP 5375 - Trauma Informed Care for Schools (3) This course will provide school professionals with strategies of how to create trauma-informed environments (schools and classrooms) that mitigate against the impacts of trauma. This course was designed for administrators, teachers and school staff to recognize trauma responses, to recognize practices that may cause traumatic stress or re-traumatize students, to accommodate and respond to traumatized students within the school setting including referrals to mental health professionals when necessary. This course will take a deep dive into the empirical research on how trauma, including adverse childhood experiences (ACE), impacts children and their experiences with formal schooling. Participants will be introduced to and explore best practices that assist students in developing positive relationships that can help them to recover and respond resiliently to future adversities.
